"Let's hit the beach!"

April 12th weekend...

We celebrated my big brother Trey's birthday in a new way this year - a new tradition, I hope. We went to the Matagorda Dunes on Matagorda Island with Trey, Tiffany, Mom and Jeffry. It was just warm enough to get some sun, but just cool enough to stay out of the water. We rented a condo with full kitchen, dining room, porch and grill. It was the perfect size for us (for now.)

The view from our back porch to the pool.

I did actually get into the pool at one point, but the water was way too cold. Jack was content pouring water from one bucket to another. He spent time playing cabana boy for a while, taking our "drink orders" and bringing us imaginary drinks while we lounged poolside. We let him play that for as long as he would!

We finally hit the beach. Uncle Trey tried to show Jack Everett how to build a sand castle with a moat, but Jack kept knocking it down. He loved getting messy in the sand. Jack, that is.

Later that night, we headed back to the public beach to fly a new kite and play with a dumptruck Mamaw and Pops brought along. He got to wear his lifeguard shirt, and the evening was very windy. Surprisingly, he showed little interest in the kite. It might have had something to do with the neverending sandbox all around him! Needless to say, he was NOT ready to leave when it started getting dark.

Early the next morning, Jack Everett and Pops fed pancakes to the turtles swimming under our back porch balcony. He loved that.

Apparently they like pancakes.

Then, it was off to the bridge to feed the seagulls from the pier. On the menu: toasted hotdog and hamburger buns from the night before. I was so excited about Jack getting to walk all the way to the end of the bridge to stand out over the ocean.

However, when we got about 1/6 th of the way out over the water, I couldn't do it. All I could imagine was him falling through the railing into the murky water without a lifejacket. I totally panicked, and we turned back.

Much happier over dry land. Now Mommy can relax.

Jack enjoyed the weekend, and totally loved the beach. I wish we could have stayed longer. Maybe next year!

Yeah, I freaked out last month w/ Sam standing at the edge of the UNM duck pond and THAT murky water. Why is it that dads are so relaxed and confident and the moms are the ones to freak out? Oh well ;)
